Today, we’re pleased to begin the roll-out of Windows 10 Mobile to select Windows Phone 8.1 devices.
Microsoft has made Windows Phone 8.1 owners wait for a considerably long time to get their hands on Windows 10 Mobile. This update was supposed to be released in December but the company couldn’t meet the deadline. It then promised to have this update out by March 2016 and it has followed through on that promise. Microsoft has released Windows 10 Mobile today for existing Windows Phone 8.1 handsets.
If you want to upgrade an existing Windows Phone 8.1 handset you’ll need to first check if your device is compatible by installing the Upgrade Advisor app from the Windows Store. If it is compatible, select "Enable Windows 10 upgrade", and you’re all set.and then select Enable Windows 10 upgrade or see if your device is included in this list: Lumia 1520, 930, 640, 640XL, 730, 735, 830, 532, 535, 540, 635 1GB, 636 1GB, 638 1GB, 430, 435, BLU Win HD w510u, BLU Win HD LTE x150q, MCJ Madosma Q501. The company says that not every exsiting Windows Phone 8 device will get the upgrade as “many older devices are not able to successfully upgrade without an impact on the customer experience”
This list includes a limited set of Windows Phone 8.1 devices and does not include some devices that are currently running Windows 10 Mobile in the Windows 10 Mobile Insider program. As Windows 10 delivers significant new innovations, many older devices are not able to successfully upgrade without an impact on the customer experience. Our goal is to only offer the Windows 10 upgrade to devices that we are confident can continue to deliver a good customer experience.
