Facebook announced today that it is letting anyone make group voice calls within its Messenger app. This capability is rolling out over the next 24 hours, so if you don’t have it yet, make sure you have the latest app update. The feature will be available to both Android and iOS users
The update is, as you would expect, completely free to all Facebook and Messenger users (one in the same really) for both Android and iOS.
To use the new feature, you simply need to tap on the phone icon and then select which friends you want to be a part of the group chat. Once you’ve chosen, the app will dial them all simultaneously and connect them to the chat as they answer. If someone misses the call, they can still join it for as long as it’s going on.
According to Facebook who clarified the limitations, the limit on group calls is 50. That’s a pretty huge number and it seems unlikely that many of us would be making such calls, but either way it is there if you need it. This will also require users to have the latest version of the app, so update if you haven’t done so already.
